According to our recent and completely unscientific poll, the majority of our readership prefers the Subaru BRZ to its kissing cousin, the Toyota GT 86. Just about half of those who clicked an opinion on our poll sided with the Subie, while the remainder were split - a quarter went with the Toyota and a quarter said the two cars were so similar that it didn't matter.

For years Detroit automakers carped about the low value of the Japanese yen versus the U.S. dollar, but these days, the opposite is true. The yen has rocketed up in value versus the dollar, and Japan's automakers are taking significant measures to mitigate its bottom-line-killing effects. In October Toyota demanded lower prices from its Japanese supply base, and now the Camry will be built in the U.S. and shipped overseas.
Toyota notes in the post-jump press release that it will build 6,000 Toyota Camry units in Georgetown, Kentucky and ship the units to Korea. The massive Georgetown plant employs nearly 7,000 employees working around the clock. This marks the first time Toyota will export... [Read More]

Automotive News reports Lexus may uproot its global headquarters and relocate to California. The move would pull the Toyota luxury brand out of Japan for the first time in the nameplate's history. Toyota has already shifted Lexus' global marketing functions to the company's campus in Torrance, California in what is being seen as the first step in a larger move. Automotive News quotes Executive Vice President Yukitoshi Funo as saying the shift is part of an effort to make Lexus less of a Japanese brand and more of a "transnational" one.

Toyota recalling 200K Siennas over misprint |

According to a report from Automotive News, Toyota is recalling more than 200,000 Sienna minivans from the 2011 and 2012 model years. But before you start worrying about reading the words 'Toyota' and 'recall' in the same sentence, know that this is for a very, very minor issue.
The problem? The tire and load information placard has been misprinted, and can cause a situation where owners over-inflate the tires. Overloaded tires can potentially fail (read: burst), and can result in a crash.
Toyota spokesperson Bryan Lyons told Automotive News that there isn't a problem with any mechanical part of the Sienna itself, just the sticker. To remedy this situation, the automaker will mail new replacement placards to affected vehicle owners.... [Read More]
